Peter Clegg MA (Cantab) MEnvD, RIBA, Keynote Speaker at BSRIA 2017 Soft Landings ConferenceMay 2017

Peter Clegg MA (Cantab) MEnvD RIBA keynote speaker at BSRIA 2017 Soft Landings Conference
BSRIA is delighted that world-renowned architect, Peter Clegg, MA (Cantab) MEnvD, RIBA, Chair of the RIBA Awards Panel, will be the keynote speaker at its flagship 2017 Soft Landings Conference: Delivering Value through Soft Landings. It will take place on Friday 16th June at RIBA HQ in London.

Soft Landings is an enhanced building delivery process that runs through the project from inception to completion and beyond, to help to close the performance gap between design intentions and operational outcomes. It provides a step-by-step process for clients and their project teams to follow in order to avoid pitfalls and deliver a better performing product.

Peter Clegg is co-founder at Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, established in 1978. Regarded as a key pioneer in environmental design, he has more than 30 years' experience in designing low energy architecture and high performance buildings and is actively involved in research, design and education.

Peter works primarily in the education and cultural sectors. He has led projects at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, London’s Southbank Centre, Brighton Dome and the new Leventis gallery in Cyprus. His active involvement in schools and higher education projects includes a new School of Engineering in Toronto and an academy in Bangladesh. He is Chair of the RIBA Awards Panel, the SWDRP, holds a professorship at Bath University and in 2010 was made an RDI (Royal Designer for Industry).

Aims

This conference will help the clients, architects and construction professionals to better understand the benefits of Soft Landings and how they could adopt it in their projects and includes:

  • Case studies of successful Soft Landings projects.
  • Soft Landings from the investors’ point of view.
  • The Integrated Project Insurance (IPI) and Soft Landings.
  • A special section about BSRIA’s plans for the future of Soft Landings.

Dr Michelle Agha-Hossein, Soft Landings Operational Lead at BSRIA, said:

“We are delighted that Peter has agreed to be the keynote speaker at this prestigious and flagship event. We know that he is an excellent speaker with a wealth of experience and much to offer on Soft Landings.

His pioneering work in environmental design and low energy architecture and high performance buildings – coupled to his active involvement in research, design and education will kick-start the event and lead the way for a scintillating session of presentations.

I know Peter will stimulate much food for thought in the following ‘Q&A’ session.

This conference will feature a range of different practical examples to show how projects benefited from Soft Landings. You will hear from an investors’ point of view as well as case studies from the clients and designers.

There will be plenty of networking opportunities and ‘Q&A’. So if you are an architect, client, designer, engineer, facilities manager or project manager, and would like to know more about Soft Landings, and how your project can benefit from it, we urge you to book on!”

Directions

In the past, delivering a new building on time and on budget were the only measures of success. Today – success is ultimately measured on how a building performs in reality and meets the end users’ needs. Soft Landings is the process that runs through a project from inception to completion and beyond to ensure the final product performs as originally intended and meets the end users’ expectations. If Soft Landings is adopted properly – there is no reason why a building should suffer from performance gap.
