New construction survey finds little change in collaborationAugust 2012

In a recent survey on Contracts and Law, NBS found little evidence of partnering or other forms of collaboration in the construction industry.

Andrew Eastwell, Chief Executive (September 1998 - April 2014)
"This is depressing, though not surprising" said Andrew Eastwell, Chief Executive of BSRIA. "Whilst we have preached the message of integration, partnering and collaboration for many years, we have seen little change. However there are now glimmers of hope in BIM, in Soft Landings and in the development of a unified plan of works that is truly cross disciplinary but which, through a multi- tiered approach retains the value of the detailed knowledge in each sector. BSRIA will be playing its part in this new approach by building on the work of our well received BG6, Design Framework."

For 92% of respondents, disputes were either at the same level or high than a year ago. The Survey reports that the main reason cited for this is the state of the economy and traditional contract forms still dominate.

The report was based on an industry survey in which many of our members participated, and we would like to thank all of you for responding to our request in a previous news article. Download a copy of the full results of the NBS National Construction Contracts and Law Survey 2012.
