Conservative Party Conference - BSRIA says housebuilding quantity must not be at the expense of qualityOctober 2016

Julia Evans OBE, Chief Executive, BSRIA
Commenting on the Prime Minister’s Theresa May’s speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham, BSRIA says that housebuilding quantity must not be at the expense of quality.

Julia Evans, Chief Executive, BSRIA said: “BSRIA was encouraged by the Prime Minister’s  speech that she has ‘vowed to repair the dysfunctional housing market’ but quantity must not be at the expense of quality.

A New Homes Ombudsman would kick-start this process, as recommended by the All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment (APPGEBE) back in the summer.

The new housing package will work to boost industry confidence, but we must see a spade in the ground. Increased housebuilding is an absolute must for the industry and a non-negotiable request for BSRIA and its members but the proof has to be in the pudding and words must turn into action.”

At the Conference on Monday, Communities Secretary Sajid Javid and Chancellor Philip Hammond announced a £5bn package of funding to boost housebuilding earlier in the week.
