Built environment professions working together on Brexit opportunities and challengesAugust 2016

BSRIA was present at a meeting held by members of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) last Wednesday (3rd August) to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by Brexit for the built environment professions and the potential added value of working collaboratively to maximise opportunities and deal collectively with the challenges.

Members agreed to provide policy input and support to the working groups established by Sir John Armitt with support from the ICE; and to other initiatives being developed by the Royal Academy of Engineering, the ACE, RIBA and RICS.

The wide database provided by the CIC membership of professional bodies in the built environment will be used to gather data and information through regular surveys. Members also agreed to collect and circulate data and information of value to the built environment professions and to share information among the professions.

CIC has launched the first issue of BREXIT Digest, to be published regularly for its members. BREXIT Digest is a round-up of the latest news and views about Britain’s withdrawal from the EU and how this impacts upon the built environment professions. The objective is to share information to ensure a mutual understanding of key issues.

Tim Page, Marketing Manager, BSRIA said: “BSRIA is holding a series of Brexit engagement events with members in September and October to gauge their concerns and feedback and act as a hub for gathering data and intelligence. There is a lot of heat and noise within the industry and anxiety on what Brexit specifically means to the industry. These events will indeed identify members’ concerns.

Moreover – it is good to see all the professional industry bodies working collaboratively on this important topic.”
