BSRIA Instruments Solutions
was delighted to announce that the Newcastle University Urban Sciences Building was the winner of the 2018 award for Project of the Year at the recent prestigious Commissioning Specialists Associations (CSA) Awards Dinner. The CSA Awards event was held on Thursday 14th June at the Mermaid Theatre, Puddle Dock, London, and BSRIA Instrument Solutions was the official sponsor of the award category which was open to all of the CSA membership.

The Urban Sciences Building is a £350 million project including open-plan offices, teaching accommodation, 300-seat lecture theatre, light workshops, laboratories and administration areas. Designed as a living laboratory, building services provide granular detail to aid in urban sustainability research. NG Bailey designed, installed and commissioned the M&E scope of works working to the Soft Landings method and with a BREEAM Excellent as their target. NG Bailey worked to encourage early engagement and was able to recommend innovative technologies and techniques to meet the requirements of the client, including a building management system that includes 4,000 sensors to collect data and deliver it in real-time to the researchers at the university.

The Project of the Year award is for the most interesting and technically challenging project or installation which has made a significant contribution to environmental issue and / or lifecycle costings.

Alan Gilbert, Manager, BSRIA Instrument Solutions, said:

"It has once again been a pleasure for BSRIA Instrument Solutions to sponsor an award at this prestigious ceremony and this time for the Project of the Year Award. Personally being asked to judge was a great honour. Products, projects and candidates that were put forward this year were of a particularly high calibre and this made deciding a winner a difficult task.

I’m delighted that the Newcastle University Urban Sciences Building has won the ‘Project of the Year’ award for their impressive project with open-plan offices, a 300-seat lecture theatre, light workshops and laboratories. It is well deserved against tough competition from other nominees.

The CSA Awards is now regarded as one of the leading building services events in the commissioning industry sphere.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank CSA for hosting the esteemed event. Indeed the CSA Awards are always a fantastic way of showcasing excellence across our industry and 2018 didn’t disappoint. The bar has now been set for 2019 to which I look forward!”

The CSA launched an industry-wide awards programme in 2015 and has been running for four years. It was configured to bring together the entire commissioning sector in a celebration of the companies, innovations and people that are achieving the highest professional standards and helping to drive this dynamic industry forward.

The award was collected by Craig Powell, Commissioning Manager, NG Bailey.
