BSRIA confirms keynote speaker at prestigious industry eventMay 2019

Mark Maslin, Professor of Climatology, University College London
Climate Change continues to make the news headlines, the political parties making noises and campaign groups beating their important and passionate drum.

The recent Net Zero Report, issued by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC), has recommended that government strives to achieve net-zero UK carbon emissions by 2050 and followed MPs calling for climate change to be seen as a national environment and climate change emergency.

The release of the UN Global Assessment Report on the state of the planet in which scientists state that society is at risk from the accelerating decline of the Earth’s natural life-support systems came hot-on-the-heels.

BSRIA’s Briefing – ‘A climate of change’ is looking at how we can use our resources more wisely and promote carbon reduction while maintaining an efficient productive business outcome.

BSRIA can announce that the keynote speaker is Mark Maslin FRGS, FRSA, Professor of Climatology, at University College London.

Mark will set the scene at the event including achievements that can be made in this respect and the “consequences of doing little or nothing”. He will stress the importance of carbon reduction.

Mark Maslin FRGS, FRSA is also the Director of the London NERC DTP, a Royal Society Wolfson Research Scholar and a Royal Society Industrial Fellow working with Rezatec Ltd, a company he co-founded in 2012. Mark is a leading scientist with expertise in global and regional climatic change and has published over 160 papers in journals such as Science, Nature, and The Lancet.

Mark also appeared in Sir David Attenborough’s recent BBC1 documentary programme: Climate Change – The Facts, which considered the science of climate change and potential solutions to this global threat.

He has written 11 books including the highly successful Climate Change: A Very Short Introduction, The Cradle of Humanity and The Human Planet co-authored with Simon Lewis. He was first included in Who’s Who in 2009.

The flagship annual Briefing and lunch will be held at the Brewery, in London, on Friday 15th November 2019.

A Climate of Change – how future technology and improved processes could secure energy efficiency & wellbeing

Mark will join Dame Kelly Holmes, DBE, Marylis Ramos, Director, PRP Architects and Mike Smith, ex-Engineering Director, BSRIA, on the Briefing’s scintillating line-up.

Colin Goodwin, Technical Director, BSRIA said:

“These are certainly ominous times and we should all be concerned about the path we’re on. Whole eco systems are under threat, and, as a society, we must conserve energy.

BSRIA is, indeed, at the forefront of this debate with its flagship annual Briefing.

Having such a persuasive and world-renowned speaker as Mark at the Briefing will ensure that BSRIA gets into the core of the climate change discussion. He will start the debate and stimulate the audience on the topic of this continuing environmental and political quicksand.

Mark’s credentials, biography and bibliography will guarantee a not-to-be-missed opening presentation. Book on!”
