BSRIA Briefing 2018 - Andrew Strauss OBE - after lunch speakerMarch 2018

Andrew Strauss OBE - 'one of the world’s most respected cricketers'
BSRIA is delighted to announce that the guest speaker at its flagship event – the annual Briefing and lunch – is Andrew Strauss OBE and will be held at the Brewery, in London, on Friday 16th November 2018.

The theme of the event is the issue of Disruption in Construction – driving technologies and processes for the future.

About Andrew Strauss OBE

Andrew Strauss OBE is Director of Cricket for the England national team. Among the world’s most respected players, he is one of only three England captains in history to secure Ashes victories both home and away. Under his stewardship, the national side achieved No.1 Test ranking. His understated authority included a 4-0 whitewash to beat and usurp No. 1-ranked India in 2011.

After abandoning a career in the City, Andrew scored a century on his Test debut at Lords. He went on to be rated one of the finest batsmen in the game, scoring over 7,000 Test match runs. A resourceful and dependable opening bat, he often made valuable contributions in tricky situations and he was always recognised for his leadership and professionalism.

On the field Andrew led by example, with a mixture of “grit and intelligence”. Off the field he was equally popular with supporters and media, doing an enormous amount to promote the game. He retired from the pitch after his 100th Test and took to commentary work with Sky.

He was then approached to become Director of Cricket after a difficult period for the team and his successor Alastair Cook.

Julia Evans, Chief Executive, BSRIA said:

“We are delighted that Andrew Strauss OBE has agreed to be BSRIA’s guest speaker at this prestigious event. We know that he is a first-rate speaker – with lots to say and a gamut of both professional and personal skillful experience – so our members and audience will be able to listen to a stimulating speech.

Being able to draw down on his tenacity and perseverance – both on and off the crease – will hit a chord with BSRIA members so we expect a lively ‘q&a’ session too!”

Disruption in Construction – driving technologies and processes for the future

We live in a world where new inventions, processes and ideas can be a real game changer and disrupt the way do things. The internet, mobile phones and the electric car are just a few we have seen over the last few decades.

This year’s Briefing will look at the technologies and processes we might expect to see in the future and the implications that these innovations may have for building services both in the commercial and residential sector.

The Chair is Oliver Zimmermann, CEO, Condair. Based in Switzerland, Oliver has been in post since 2012. Condair is an integrated, global market leader in humidification and evaporate cooling and its vision is to deliver productivity, sustainability and health through air and water to achieve extraordinary goals for a successful future.
