BSRIA experts chart cabling market highs and lows at BICSIFebruary 2009

BSRIA's Worldwide Market Intelligence (WMI) department kicked off their presence at the recent annual BICSI Winter Conference by holding a private presentation at the Rosen Shingle Creek Resort on 20th January 2009. The presentation was very well received, attracting a high number of industry professionals.

Delegates were treated to exclusive findings from recent studies and the services offered by WMI's I.T. Networks and Associated Technologies division including:

  • Worldwide Structured Cabling study
  • US & UK Data Centre market
  • Intelligent Infrastructure Management Systems study
  • BSRIA Consultancy services

Market experts Lone Hansen and Summer Chardine explored the developments and trends in the structured cabling market such as price developments in 2008 and uptake of Cat 6A cabling. Delegates were also presented with preliminary estimates for 2008 and forecasts for 2009. 2008 showed growth in most countries with the only exception being US, UK and Italy. BSRIA also noted that China is now the second largest market after the US and a number of developing markets now can be found in the top 12 such as India, Russia, Mexico and Brazil.

Following the success of BSRIA's US Data Centre study (published January 2008), a new study on the UK Data centre market is to follow in March 2009; BSRIA experts noted a high interest in their Data Centre studies at the BICSI exhibition. Subjects covered in the data centre end-user studies include; the cabling market size, type and location, , 10G cabling choice, 40G and 100G current and future plans, switch port utilisation, fibre connectivity and the use of pre-terminated, replacement rates, network impact from blade servers and virtualisation.

The presentation was the perfect platform to address potential new market studies by BSRIA. Although they are solely dependant on market demand, proposed studies for 2009/10 included; high speeds in commercial networks, integrated cabling in buildings, an update of the US verticals study, China Verticals, WLAN and VoIP, Quarterly forecast, Strategic overview, Data centre studies in Germany or India.

As well as holding a private presentation, market expert Lone Hansen gave an interview for the major U.S. cabling magazine Cabling Installation and Maintenance. Lone discussed how the market might shape up in 2009 and the global economic pressures that are currently affecting the global cabling market.
