EU legislation and impact eventJuly 2008

Recently BSRIA hosted an open day to discuss their new Energy Efficient EU Legislation and Impact study. The event was very well attended, with a large number of senior representatives from some of the market leading companies from the Air Conditioning, Heating and Building Controls industries, from all over Europe.

Due to the demand for spaces on the day, BSRIA held two simultaneous presentations in their Head Office in Bracknell, chaired by both Mike Smith (Technical Director) and Anne King (Sales & Marketing Director).

The event took the format of a series of presentations outlining the directives covered in the first study, which includes EPBD, EuP and Energy Services Directive (ESD). Included in the day were a series of workshops, which allowed attendees to discuss their opinions on legislation within the HVAC industry.

After lunch, BSRIA experts commented on how EU Legislation was already impacting on the Renewables market and the Air Conditioning market, which made it clear to see that EU Legislation and various Incentives are already very important drivers within the market.

The response to the open day indicates that this is a very hot topic within the industry, with BSRIA's Andrew Giles commenting that "I am very pleased with the response, this is best attended open day we have had, which gives an indication of how seriously the industry view this subject".

The BSRIA study, which will be released in October and will be updated every quarter, intends to strip away the confusing legal jargon and provide in a very simple and easy to understand language the Implication of the three directives on a product basis. Facilitating the formulation of new product development, sales, marketing, sourcing and manufacturing strategies for companies.
