Workplace and environmental dust monitoring

Features

This one day dust monitoring seminar covers the workplace as well as the external environment and gives insights into compliance with H&S regulations alongside solutions for day to day applications. This event is being co-hosted by the BSRIA Instrument Solutions team along with TSI, a leading global equipment supplier of equipment into this metrological field and a guest speaker from the Health & Safety Laboratory. The event will include a hands-on session which will enable all delegates to become familiar with a range of products, with experts available to answer questions as they arise.

Who should attend

H&S managers, consultants, contractors or plant owners from any industry or market with an interest in dust monitoring and indoor air quality in the workplace or external environment.

This courses is not limited to Building Services applications. It includes the monitoring of construction sites, factory production applications, ambient pollution and nuisance dust situations.

Aims

This course aims to:

Provide delegates with an understanding of the various pieces of UK legislation that affect workplace and the external environment.

Provide an understanding of how equipment operates and demonstrate how equipment is used in real life dust monitoring exercises.

Content and timings

10:05 – 11.10  Dust Monitoring Part 1: particle basics, measuring methodology and instruments, fields of use and applications.  
11:10 – 11:25  Tea and coffee break
11.25 – 12:30  Dust Monitoring Part 2: fields of use and applications  including hands on session with a range of instrumentation.
12:30 – 13.00  Lunch
13:00 – 14:30 Guest speaker  - Nick Baxter, Breathing Apparatus Specialist : Health & Safety Laboratory, Buxton, Derbyshire

The practical workshop will showcase the latest range of TSI products including the DustTrak and AMS instruments as well as systems available for sales and rental from BSRIA Instrument Solutions.

Lecturers

Alan Gilbert – General Manager, BSRIA Instrument Solutions

  • Alan has worked with portable instrumentation for 30 years either at BSRIA or as the Laboratory Manger at one of the UK’s leading suppliers of equipment for indoor air quality, air velocity, temperature & humidity, pressure, air volume and data logging.
  • Currently he is the BSRIA Instrument Solutions General Manager, and in this role he is responsible for running the three part business that comprises of an instrument hire, instrument sales and UKAS accredited calibration centre which include calibrations facilities for parameters such as that for temperature, humidity and air velocity.
  • Previous roles have included being a commissioning engineer for a UK air filter manufacturer where considerable knowledge was gained testing systems throughout the UK

Stacey Ward – Internal Sales Manager, BSRIA Instrument Solutions

  • Stacey is the BSRIA Instrument Solutions Internal Sales Manager and is responsible for the day to day running of the equipment rental and sales desks.
  • He has worked at BSRIA for over 10 years and has considerable experience in the H&V industry specifically relating to measurement and test
  • Stacey is a certified level 1 thermographer and a BPEC approved ventilation test engineer. 

Nick Brown - Regional Sales Manager for TSI in the UK & Ireland

  • Nick is responsible for the sale of TSI products in an number of sectors including those classified as being within the H&S environment.  His role covers instruments being sold via channel partners such as BSRIA Instrument Solutions, as well as large end users of products within applications such as boarder security, the military and aerospace.
