Full description

A heat interface unit (HIU) is a packaged set of components necessary to connect a consumer’s heating and/or hot water systems to the heat network.

This test standard describes how to determine heat transfer capacity and other performance aspects of  an HIU under standard conditions or application-specific conditions in a laboratory. It applies to packaged HIUs (also known as consumer interface units, heat stations or hydraulic boards) that incorporate a heat exchanger.

The purpose of the test standard is to establish a common test methodology for the following:

  • Product identification
  • Static testing of the space heating circuit capacity
  • Dynamic testing of the domestic hot water production capacity
  • Fluid side pressure drop on both circuits
  • Plate deflection
  • Heat loss measurements

Amendments

Please not that some corrections were made to this standard on 18/05/2016. In section 4.3.4 on page 7, item 2 was changed to read “Pressure sensors shall be checked against a reference instrument before commencement of each series of tests and zero checked prior to testing each HIU.”  Also in table 3 (Thermal capacity test conditions) on page 8, the primary inlet temperature for test condition 2 was changed from 80.0°C to 65.0°C. If you downloaded the guide before 18/05/2016, please download it again.
