Full description

States that effective sensors, controls and control algorithms are crucial to the provision of optimal comfort and efficient performance of all heating systems but there are particular problems in large spaces such as factories, warehouses, maintenance depots etc. In such places users compensate for evident control difficulties by turning up thermostats, resulting in overheated buildings and up to 20% wasted energy. In other examples such as superstores and sorts facilities the emphasis may be on the maintenance of comfort and minimisation of environmental variations in the space, but rudimentary control systems often fail to achieve the best result. Points out that improvements in the technology of sensors and controllers allow for more flexible location of sensors, direct monitoring of the working area and intelligent control algorithms. These benefits to comfort and energy efficiency have not yet been widely appreciated. Supplies practical guidance on the improvement of heating control in large spaces. Section headings are - Guidance for improved control, Current practice for space heating controls, Case studies. Presents a glossary of terms.
