Full description

Set of 3 guides containing BSRIA's new Illustrated Guide to Electrical Building Services (BG32/2014),  Illustrated Guide to Mechanical Building Services (BG31/2017) and Rules of Thumb - guidelines for building services 5th Edition (BG 9/2011).

Illustrated Guide to Electrical Building Services 3rd edition is an update to BG 5/2005 and provides basic reference information on electrical services systems. The new guide provides further information on motor controllers, combined heat & power, standby generators, lighting protection, and plugs and sockets.

Illustrated Guide to Mechanical Building Services is an update to AG 15/2002 and as with the previous guide provides basic reference information on mechanical building services systems for construction clients and professionals in other areas of the construction industry.

This guide covers the key areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and controls and new for this edition is an overview of pumps, pressurisation, low-carbon heat sources, MVHR systems, commissioning, handover and project evaluation.

To ensure that both of our Illustrated Guides are simple and quick to use, a brief outline of each system is provided, followed by a list of key points.

Rules of Thumb is useful for approximately calculating values, setting outline targets and rapidly comparing different options to inform the early stages of the design process.
The 5th edition of the guide includes more detailed information and comes in a more user-friendly spiral-bound format. New additions include:

  • Greatly increased guidance about space and weight allowances
  • CO2 emissions benchmarks
  • Clearer guidance about costs, expanded to include energy consumption, maintenance, operation and life cycle cost information
  • A system features section that has been subdivided into mechanical and electrical systems and clarified
  • Guidance about compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations, renewable technologies and air permeability of buildings

These guides are available to purchase individually in Pdf or hard copy format and can be located under the A-Z books list.
