Energy is a significant cost for all organisations. Energy management is simply a process of gaining control over the energy that is used. There's a lot of good reasons for doing this - in addition to reducing your organisation's CO2 emissions it will reduce your energy costs and possibly also improve the effectiveness of your core business.

Practical Energy Management will provide delegates with a greater understanding of:

• the energy issues
• how energy data can be analysed
• how energy saving measures can be identified, prioritised and implemented

Delegates should also be able to seek out more detailed information that applies to their buildings specifically.

The course is designed primarily for people who have been tasked with managing energy use in their buildings. However it is also useful for those who are involved with post-occupancy evaluation and energy surveys of buildings, or anyone who wishes to gain an understanding of how energy is used in their organisation, and steps that can be taken to reduce energy use.

The aim of the course is to present the central issues surrounding the topic of energy management and give delegates confidence in carrying out basic energy analysis

Delegates will learn about:

• CO₂ and climate change
• Energy use in buildings 
• Energy policies and energy strategies
• Conducting an energy survey
• Energy saving opportunities
• Monitoring and targeting
• Energy legislation & incentives
• Sources of further information

Examples and case study material will be presented throughout. A case study exercise will take place, in which delegates will analyse a set of energy data.

Registration and coffee will be at 0900.  The course will start at 0930 and finish at 1630

Delegates are provided with a copy of all the slides presented,  additional handouts relating to energy management and a BSRIA CPD certificate. Lunch and refreshments are provided.

David Bleicher has a background in building services design, with experience of mechanical and electrical design both in the UK and in the USA. He joined BSRIA in 2005 and has worked on research projects, design reviews and he also leads the BSRIA training programme.  Read David's full profile.
