Embodied Carbon Webinar
Embodied energy or carbon is defined as the total primary energy consumed (carbon released) from direct and indirect processes associated with a product or service and within the boundaries of cradle-to-gate. This includes all activities from material extraction (quarrying/mining), manufacturing, transportation and right through to fabrication processes until the product is ready to leave the final factory gate.
Embodied carbon is increasingly becoming more and more important as operational carbon dioxide emissions in buildings are driven down. The University of Bath developed the Inventory of Carbon and Energy (ICE), a database containing data for most construction materials used today. To help people use this data to calculate the embodied carbon of systems or buildings, the University of Bath collaborated with BSRIA to produce BG10/2011 - a guide on how to use the data.
This webinar will give delegates an overview of the theories behind embodied carbon and the calculation methods contained in the BSRIA Guide.
Who should attend?
Architects, designers and engineers involved in the selection of materials for products or buildings will find this webinar of interest, especially those involved in the selection of materials and sustainability.
The Lecturers
James Parker
James joined BSRIA in 2002 with a background in materials engineering to work on projects in low energy technologies and water systems. He continues this work while developing forensic investigations into pipework and plant failures. He is a licensed BREAAM assessor and BREEAM Accredited Professional.
Irena Saniuk
Irena joined BSRIA in 2008 having completed Master's degrees in Environmental sciences and engineering. Since joining BSRIA she has been involved in several large European research projects such as I3CON on innovative construction methods. She is a licensed BREEAM assessor and trained level 1 thermographer.
What is a webinar?
A webinar is a live interactive presentation delivered over the Internet direct to your desktop, normally combining PowerPoint and a live presenter.
You do not need any special software installed on your computer, although you will need internet access and a telephone near your computer to hear the presentation. You will be required to login to the system (full details are sent to you in advance) and register so that we know who is participating
