Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE)
BSRIA is skilled in the use of building performance evaluation techniques at all stages of a building's life. Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) assessments can be vital for unlocking hidden information that can be valuable for informing client requirements and design briefing. POE can be used post-completion to determine whether performance meets design targets.
BSRIA provides a range of services to conduct and support POE, from the complete evaluation to providing energy monitoring instruments and benchmarking building performance.
As clients increasingly demand proof of performance, POE is becoming required on many projects, particularly in the public sector for schools, offices and healthcare.
BSRIA's approach to POE falls into three elements:
- A forensic walkthrough; an inspection to check the building's operation and whether there are any emerging problems or wasteful operational practices
- An energy survey; a breakdown of the energy used in a building by type of consumption e.g. heating, air conditioning,
lighting - Assessment of occupant satisfaction; surveys and interviews of building users and occupiers
Soft Landings
A Post-Occupancy Evaluation is an integral part of a Soft Landings project, which keeps designers and constructors involved with buildings beyond practical completion. Visit our Soft Landings pages for more information, a free download of the framework and details of BSRIA's support services.
