Soft Landings - Australia and New Zealand

This lecture series was organised by CIBSE ANZWelcome to BSRIA's Soft Landings download page to accompany the 2010 Soft Landings lecture series organised by CIBSE ANZ.
On this page you will find useful documents to accompany Roderic Bunn's 2010 ANZ lectures. In the interest of reducing the waste, cost and carbon emissions associated with printing, we have provided documents as downloads. You can read these on-line, save them to your computer for reference, or print them yourself.
Download edited, simplified and low resolution versions of Roderic Bunn's Soft Landings presentations Part 1 (pdf 1.2MB) and Part 2 (pdf 2.3MB) . Some images have been removed for copyright or for reasons of clarity, while a couple of new slides have been added to improve the message. All animations have also been removed, which meant some slides have been modified.
These presentations are those given in Sydney at the end of the lecture tour, and contain all improvements and tweaks made along the way. If you require the slides from New Zealand, which contained imagery and text that related to the local conditions, please e-mail roderic.bunn@bsria.co.uk directly.
Soft Landings primer
This four-page document (also available in print from CIBSE ANZ) provides a basic understanding of Soft Landings, and how the process runs through from project inception to design, and through to building operation and aftercare.

Soft Landings will recognise and overcome problems beyond building handoverSoft Landings framework
The Soft Landings Framework includes all the procedures for applying Soft Landings, plus checklists and generic workplans.
Soft Landings for schools
This case study publication reports on how Soft Landings processes have been carried out on the UK schools rebuilding programme. The leaflet identifies not only the benefits of applying Soft Landings, but also some of the barriers, and ways in which those barriers can be overcome. Note that a more detailed report is available from www.usablebuildings.co.uk.
The case for Soft Landings 1: Energy cost variations
The cost of Soft Landings is often raised as an objection to the process. This document explains how the cost of Soft Landings is small compared to the cost variation in a building's estimated energy consumption. This variation is greater than the nominal cost of the Soft Landings Aftercare - the only part of the process that involves additional cost. The calculations were carried out by the major UK builder, Willmott Dixon.
