Ska assessments

Ska assessments help to improve the sustainability of existing buildings by focusing on fit-out projectsBSRIA provides accredited Ska assessments to measure the environmental impact of UK office refurbishments.
Ska is an environmental labelling method to evaluate fit-out projects, developed from RICS / AECOM research initiated by Skansen, which aimed to measure the environmental impacts associated with fit-out.
A Ska assessment:
- specifically relates to refurbishment projects
- helps to reduce the environmental impact of existing buildings
- can be completed quickly and simply to match the short timescales of a fit-out project
Although Ska can be used alongside other environmental assessment methods, it differs to BREEAM and LEED by focusing directly on fit-out. It only includes measures that the design team can influence, not the wider context of the site location, proximity to public transport links etc.
BSRIA provides independent services with no vested interest in gaining design or contracting work.
BSRIA also provides BREEAM, Code for Sustainable Homes and energy efficiency consultancy for new and existing buildings.
