Construction archives survey

February 2012

The construction industry is invited to join a survey that seeks to identify and safeguard the key historical records documenting Britain's built environment, whether they relate to architecture, building or construction (the ABC Survey). The Business Archives Council, in partnership with The National Archives will be conducting the survey over the coming year and are inviting companies to express interest in taking part.

While much of Britain's history is reflected in its buildings, that history is only partly chronicled in the surviving archives of the industry. Many of these archives may lie unknown and unidentified and it is the objective of the survey to bring them to light and to ensure their long term preservation. Survey work will be combined with a free advisory service that will offer guidance to businesses on all aspects of their record-keeping.

Companies and individuals who wish to become involved in the project are invited to contact Annabel Peacock at The National Archives: email annabel.peacock@nationalarchives.gsi.gov.uk or tel. 020 8392 5330 ext 2603.
